TMJ

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint (the joint connecting the jaw to the skull), which is responsible for eating, chewing, laughing and any general movement of the mouth.

When an individual's jaw is misaligned, the TMJ can become inflamed and sore, catalysing the jaw muscles to spasm. Muscles in the face, neck and shoulders start to tighten and considerable added pressure is placed on surrounding nerves. This results in headaches and migraines.

The good news is that our experienced team of dental practitioners are trained to diagnose and relieve symptoms associated with TMJ. We are more than happy to discuss a solution, which may include wearing a custom-fitted mouthguard while sleeping, learning jaw stretching exercises and relaxing techniques, and/or seeking teeth restoration prosthetics to replace damaged teeth due to possible jaw clenching/grinding.

Schedule an appointment today at Main Street Dental if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort in your jaw.
