Endodontic Treatment

Root canal therapy (endodontic treatment) is a specialised dental procedure dedicated to saving a diseased tooth that would otherwise require removal.

Inside every tooth is a pulp chamber containing nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. When this pulp is infected or injured, serious pain is caused and the tooth can no longer repair itself. Therefore, the life of the tooth becomes threatened.

Endodontic therapy focuses on removing the dead pulp found inside the tooth's soft core to save it. Once pulp is removed, the tooth chamber is cleaned and sealed with a crown. As long as you look after your new crown and maintain regular hygiene and dental assessments, your gums and teeth will remain healthy.

Concerned you may need endodontic treatment? Some of the signs and symptoms of pulp damage include:

  • Swelling, tenderness or an abscess in gums.
  • Serious visible tooth decay.
  • The development of pain and/or sensitivity to cold and hot food/beverages.
  • Tooth discolouration.
  • Spontaneous pain upon biting into food.

We strongly recommend you schedule a consultation with Main Street Dental today so we can professionally diagnose your suspected gum disease and discuss a suitable treatment plan.
